Evaluation Question1 - In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 1 -
At the beginning of this project I began to look at real magazines I have found in stores to take a look at how everything was laid out and presented in order to attract there target audience which could give me a few ideas on how I could present my own magazine. My music magazine front cover uses conventions of a real magazine which makes it look much more professional. The masthead is one of the conventions I have used, I made it look big so that it is eye catching to the target audience and I also placed it at the top of the magazine front cover to show that it is what the magazine is called and also I made sure the masthead looks recognisable when seen in shops by making it only one colour which is purple and also keeping it plain and simple. The font I have used for my masthead is the elephant handwriting so that it is suitable for my target audience.

Another convention used on my music magazine is the bar code which I placed on the right hand corner to make my magazine look completely real as every magazine includes one.

I have used another convention which are the cover lines to attract my target audience into buying what is in the issue, I made my cover lines not to long so that the person reading it would not get bored but short as it is supposed to give and overview of what the magazine is about, the cover lines are also, interesting, eye catching and colourful to withdraw the reader into buying the magazine. I have used the same font as I used on my masthead so that it wouldn't get to confusing and messy. Some of the writing are bigger than others which are the main to read when looking at the magazine and this makes it stand out also all of the writing that are in purple stand out from the pink because these are the important bits to read in the cover lines, it also attracts the audience attention. I have made a separate cover line using a different colour but the same font and put a box around it, this definitely stands out to the target audience as some of the letters are in capitals and i made a contrast with the colours so that it is much more eye catching that the rest of the cover lines.

The main convention of a music magazine is the main image in the middle of a magazine which is usually a medium close up and so I have used a medium long shot so that you could at least see some of the outfit and shows what kind of magazine it is all about.

For my contents page I have also used conventions that are on the front cover of my magazine which is the images I have used for it and this also includes in real magazine. I have used images on my content page to show sneak peaks on what will be featured on the other pages in my magazine. I have also included a similar picture that relates to the image on my front cover of my magazine so that it continues.
Another thing I have included in my contents page is a category of number pages so that the reader knows where to find the page they are interested in also around it there are categories that include images which is also how most magazine arrange there contents page.

Similarly, I have used some conventions that are on my front cover and contents page on to my double page spread which is the colour scheme, so that it relates to the same theme. Another convention I have used from my double page spread is the arrangement of the columns, I have also included images around the text and two column that include information in the middle of the page. The heading I have used stands out as it is placed at the top middle of the page it also looks quite original as most headings in magazines are either on the right or on the left of the page.
